Andeluna Cellars Makes Wine Enthusiast's
Top 100 List
New Argentine Winery Captures
US Attention in First Year
Mendoza,
Argentina; Andeluna Cellars,
a new Argentine (Mendoza) winery, wrapped
up a stellar first year on the US market
with a coveted achievement: being named
one of Wine Enthusiast?s Top 100 Wines
of 2006.
“This has been an amazing year for
Andeluna Cellars," said Mike Kenter,
VP of Sales and Marketing for Andeluna
Cellars. “Our wines were awarded
20 gold medals and several best of class
awards in just eight international wine
competitions, and received numerous excellent
reviews from top wine writers across the
country. Being named on Wine Enthusiast's
Top 100 list is the perfect end to an
outstanding year."
Andeluna Cellars 2003 Reserve Malbec came
in at number 55 on the list of 100 wines
carefully selected from approximately
8,000 reviewed by Wine Enthusiast in 2006.
According to the magazine's website, in
addition to numeric scores, price, availability,
newsworthiness, and the X-factors: excitement,
buzz were considered when making selections.
Of Andeluna Cellars 2003 Reserve Malbec,
Wine Enthusiast?s Michael Schachner wrote,
“Winemaker Silvio Alberto"
is clearly a proponent of the bigger-is-better
school, and he deserves credit for making
big wines that are balanced despite being
brawny. This high-end Malbec, which is
very reasonably priced (SRP $23), blasts
with menthol, prune, chocolate, and cassis.
It's modern, chewy, but has enough tannin,
acid and grit to keep it in fine form.
Drink now through 2008."
In addition to making Wine Enthusiast's
Top 100 Wines of 2006 list, Andeluna's
2003 Reserve Malbec was awarded a Double
Gold medal from the 2006 San Francisco
International Wine Competition. The winery
also was named overall “Best of
Nation" at the competition, amassing
the highest total number of points of
all Argentine wineries.
“Silvio Alberto is one of the brightest
stars among Argentina?s new generation
of winemakers," said Kenter. “His
unique winemaking style captures your
attention, combining a deep appreciation
of the kind of fruit that only Argentina
can produce with a complete mastery of
modern winemaking techniques and philosophy.
His wines are at once deeply Argentine
and absolutely international in style.
The future looks extremely bright as well
for Andeluna, as the newly released 2004
Reserve Malbec was just named one of the
top 70 wines in South America by Austral
Spectator."
Andeluna Cellars' wines are produced at
a striking new state-of-the-art winery
located at the base of the Andes mountain
range in Mendoza, Argentina. Andeluna
Cellars winery was born of the vision
of well-known international businessman
H. Ward Lay, founder of Pepsi-Gamex &
Circle T Foods and son of the late Herman
W. Lay (founder of Frito-Lay and former
Chairman of the Board of Pepsico), and
world-class grape grower Ricardo Reina
Rutini, whose family has been growing
